It seems that no matter what you do the
spiders keep coming back. There are a few things you can do to keep spiders away from your home.
Ladybugs aren’t near as annoying and scary as
spiders, and they both eat the same insects. If you can plant a garden next to your house to attract ladybugs, then they’ll eat all the food the
spiders were depending on, thereby driving the
spiders to your neighbor’s yard. Plant flowers and bushes near your home to attract ladybugs and watch the spiders disappear.
Spiders and most other pests hate the strong smell of peppermint oil. Put peppermint oil and a bit of water in a plastic spray bottle and spray it where you’re having spider problems. You can also soak a cotton ball in peppermint oil and place it between your screens and your windows to keep them away on the inside.
If you have a lot of clutter in your yard, such as pots, wheelbarrows, and gardening tools, clean it up to keep the
spiders away. All these things make it easy for
spiders to make webs and inhabit your yard. Clean up webs as you see them as well to drive them away.
- Rub Citrus Peels on Surfaces
Spiders hate the smell of citrus. Rub the peels of oranges, lemons or grapefruits on your doorways, window sills, baseboards, bookshelves, and anywhere else
spiders inhabiting. You could also use a citrus essential oil and dilute it with water. This should be done often so the smell stays prominent to keep the spiders away.
- Place Cedar Chips Around Your Yard
Spiders also hate cedar. If you are already laying down mulch in your yard, consider getting cedar as an extra help to keep the
spiders away from your home. It smells great, just not to
spiders.
